TOUR ITINERARYDay 1: New Zealand to SaigonFly with Singapore Airlines via Singapore to Saigon for 2 nights. Day 2: SaigonVisit the former Presidential Palace, War Remnants Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, Cholon, Binh Tay Wholesale Market and Thien Hau Pagoda. Afterwards stop at Ben Thanh Market for some shopping. Days 3-4: SaigonToday we explore the Mekong Delta, the heart of South Vietnam. We take various boat trips amongst the smaller tributaries to visit the local floating markets, villages, home industries and plantations. The following day we explore the famous Cu Chi Tunnels and Tay Ninh, where we experience the midday service at the head temple of the unique Cai Dai religion. Days 5-7: Saigon to Hoi AnFly to Danang and transfer to Hoi An stopping at the Cham Museum, Marble Mountains and China Beach en route. Tomorrow we take a walking tour of Hoi An, visiting an old merchant’s home, the Japanese Bridge, Hoi An Market and a local Chinese pagoda. The afternoon and the following day are free to visit the tailors and soak up the atmosphere at one of the many riverside cafes. Day 8: Hoi An to HueDrive over Hai Van Pass to Hue. Visit the Imperial Citadel and Tu Duc Tomb. Tonight we enjoy a cooking lesson. Day 9: Hue to HanoiEnjoy a cruise on the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda before visiting Khai Dinh Tomb. Fly to Hanoi and enjoy an evening performance of a Water Puppets show. Days 10-11: HanoiToday we travel to Halong Bay and enjoy a cruise through the spectacular scenery. Our city tour tomorrow includes visits to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed Sep-Dec), Stilt House and Museum, Temple of Literature and a walking tour of the Old Quarter and its markets. We will also see Hoan Kiem Lake, Tran Quoc Pagoda, the Ethnology Museum and One Pillar Pagoda. Days 12-13: Hanoi to KunmingBid farewell to Vietnam to embark on our China adventure. Fly to Kunming for a 2 night stay. This evening we sample ‘Across the Bridge Noodles’. The following day visit the picturesque Stone Forest. Day 14: Kunming to GuilinFly to Guilin this morning. Later we visit the Seven Star Caves and Mt. Diecai. Days 15-16: Guilin to Yangshuo (Li River Cruise) to GuilinRelax on a Li River cruise to Yangshuo. Tomorrow visit the local markets before we return to Guilin and visit the town of Daxu. Day 17: Guilin to XianFly to Xian and feast on a Shui Jiao Dumpling Banquet this evening. Day 18: XianVisit the ancient City Wall and the Terracotta Warriors. Enjoy an evening performance of traditional Tang Dynasty dancing. Days 19-20: Xian to BeijingVisit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, walk through the Muslim Quarter to the Great Mosque and visit the Islamic food markets. Later we board our overnight train to Beijing. We arrive the following morning and visit the Summer Palace and sample ‘Peking Duck’. Day 21: BeijingEnjoy a visit to the famous Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Day 22: BeijingTake a walk along the Great Wall and tour the Temple of Heaven. Enjoy an evening Chinese Acrobatic show. Days 23-24: Beijing to ShanghaiFly to Shanghai today. Tomorrow visit the Yu Gardens, Shanghai Museum, the Old Town and the famous Bund. Day 25: ShanghaiToday we visit the Pudong area and the Xintiandi area. This evening enjoy a cruise along the Huangpu River. Day 26: Depart ShanghaiThe morning is at leisure before transferring to the airport for our overnight flight home.
