Wendy Wu Tours reservations consultant Lucy Anthony recently returned from our Vietnam at a Glance tour – this was her first time on a Vietnam tour, and her first Wendy Wu tour. Here she shares the sights, sounds, and flavours of Vietnam in vivid, three-dimensional detail.
Vietnam had always been a bucket list destination of mine, and after receiving the opportunity to travel on our Vietnam at a Glance, it exceeded all my expectations. Here’s why you should visit for yourself:
It doesn’t take long to feel the humidity and witness the ubiquitous presence of mopeds. Riders alongside their family and often a furniture pile on board the motorised two-wheels, navigating their way through the city. The hustle and bustle, as well as the controlled chaos, of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are mesmerising to watch. And when the sun has gone for the day, tourists and locals emerge to play their part in the vibrant nightlife – the exciting reminder you are somewhere new.

Vietnam isn’t just known for its lively, bustling urban life, but also for its vast scenery. As you venture your way out of the cities toward Cu Chi or the Mekong Delta, you’re greeted by green rice fields stretching out far and wide on either side of the motorway. The stark contrast between the restless and the serene makes Vietnam all the more lovable.
During my time on tour, we learnt about Vietnam’s complex and harrowing history, which is both confronting and fascinating. Having our guide, Kim, with us provided rich insight and more profound meaning, which is easily missed on one’s own. His expert knowledge poured into every attraction we visited.
One thing I was most excited about was trying the local cuisine. Over the 11 days, we tried an array of fresh and fried foods and soon became connoisseurs of sticky rice. As our guide Kim liked to say “it’s an eating tour” eating your way up the country, you never fall short of a delicious meal and full belly.

It’s easy to fall in love with the quaint and colourful town of Hoi An. The ancient town’s mixture of colonial influences creates unique architecture and an endearing atmosphere. Although time may be limited to get something made, the abundance of tailors’ shops stacked with fabrics from floor to ceiling is impressive. Walking along the river framed with lanterns during the day or night is lovely too.
Finishing the tour with an overnight in otherworldly Halong Bay was my absolute favourite and a must-do when visiting Vietnam. Waking up to the views is unforgettable. It is the perfect way to appreciate the landscapes and natural beauty the country has to offer.

Everywhere we went, we were met by the authentic generosity and friendliness of the locals, who were happy to meet us and proud to showcase their country. The people you encounter so often make a trip so memorable. There is something for everyone in Vietnam: its sights, people, history, and scenery. Vietnam is a beloved destination, and for good reason. You have to see it for yourself!
