Chongqing Zoo and Panda House

Better known as a resident of neighbouring Sichuan province, the giant panda has made a place for itself in Chongqing.

Located just outside the city centre, Chongqing Zoo includes the Panda House, a dwelling for China’s most popular bear.

Designed to resemble the rock caves and bamboo groves of their native Sichuan Mountains, at the Panda House you can watch the pandas doing what they do best - chomping through great piles of bamboo and romping around with their fellows.

Located right on the Yangtze River, the zoo was first opened to the public in 1955 with facilities that include a tea house and restaurants. Chongqing Zoo is also home to a number of other animals, including red pandas, giraffes, gorillas, elephants, kangaroos plus some more unusual additions such as the rare South China tiger.
