More good news for Australian travellers

22 October 2021

More good news for Australian travellers

Last week residents of New South Wales received some welcome news from their new State Premier regarding international travel. Premier Dominic Perrottet revealed that fully vaccinated Australian citizens, residents and their families will soon be able to travel internationally, and return without hotel or home quarantine. Quarantine will be lifted from 1st November 2021 and will not only allow Australians to travel overseas for business and leisure more freely, but also allow many Australians living overseas a chance to return home for the first time since March 2020. Prime minister Scott Morrison applauded the move, positively commenting that quarantine will be a ‘thing of the past’ in NSW from November onwards. Some other State Premiers have revealed they will follow a similar path igniting excitement in the tourism industry and amongst avid travellers.

Here’s what you need to know.
You can still leave and return to Australia if you are unvaccinated. However, you will have to undertake 14 days self-funded hotel quarantine self when you arrive back in Australia. Additionally, only a restricted number of unvaccinated arrivals will be permitted to enter NSW.
There will be no cap on the number of fully vaccinated international arrivals.
You must show proof of double vaccination before you can take off and return.
You will need to receive a negative PCR COVID test result with 72 hours of departing on your return flight to Australia.
The scheme currently only recognises the following vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson

With the return of international travel on the horizon we have released our COVID vaccination policy and are busy ensuring all our partners, services and suppliers have the highest COVID safety measures in place to ensure the safety of all our passengers as soon as we can all embark again.

Talks of international travel to resume

There has been some positive news for the travel industry and avid world travellers with Prime Minister Scott Morrison announcing changes to international border restrictions. "It's time to give Australians their lives back," Mr. Morrison said as he released his plans to open international borders by Christmas 2021 to states that have reached 80 per cent vaccination rates, starting with New South Wales.

To add to travellers growing optimism, further plans have been revealed which will ease regulations around international travel so that it is more affordable and accessible. The government has announced they are considering using rapid antigen testing which has much faster COVID-19 test results and also unveiled plans for home quarantine options for fully vaccinated travelers, instead of paying thousands of dollars for hotel quarantine. This is pending the success of home quarantine trials which are currently underway in both New South Wales and South Australia.

Although more details are still to be released the welcome news has ignited a buzz amongst travellers and the travel industry painting a positive outlook for international travel in 2022.

Singapore and Japan are flagged to be the first countries in Asia that will be open to Australians, so it’s time to start planning that next dream holiday and get out to exploring the world again!

Singapore Food Festival

For the next couple of weeks Singapore Tourism Board and partners are bringing the flavours of Singapore straight to your living room.

The Singapore Food Festival has been running annually for over 25 years, celebrating local foods that portray the nation’s rich culinary culture. Singapore’s food is deeply intwined with it’s humble beginnings as a fishing village and has played a large part in its evolution into a buzzing modern metropolis. In fact, Singapore’s hawker culture is so important it was named a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage site.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 the festival didn’t run in its traditional sense in 2020. Instead, a successful online event was launched with plans for another this year, with even bigger and better events to tantilise the taste buds of foodie fans. This year the Singapore Food Festival will run from 27 August to 12 September.

Join in on the festivities online and surround yourself with the exotic tastes of Singapore. Take part in cooking masterclasses with some of the world’s upcoming and most influential chefs, get inspired with new meal ideas or just take a virtual tour and reminisce wandering those hawkers market stalls that we are all so fond of.

Hong Kong Clean Intiatives

20 August 2021

Hong Kong Clean Intiatives

Hong Kong continues its low rate of COVID infections with relatively little to no community transmission. As at 19 August, 57.3% of the population have received their first dose of vaccination and 44.9% are now fully vaccinated having received both doses #.

Hong Kong has been able to effectively manage outbreaks without the need for hard lockdown measures. Here are just some of the ways they are working to protect the health and safety of visitors to Hong Kong.

1. Anti-epidemic hygiene programme
Both the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency have introduced the Anti-epidemic Hygiene Measures Certification Scheme. To receive the certification, merchants and other businesses in various sectors, including hotels, restaurants and tour operators must implement measures including temperature checks conducted on staff, providing hand hygiene amenities to customers, regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces and maintaining good indoor ventilation.

2. Smart contact tracing
The LeaveHomeSafe mobile app enables the logging of details when visiting restaurants or public places by using a QR code. The app will notify anyone who may have been at a venue at the same time as a confirmed case

3. The use of smart robots for thorough disinfection
First introduced at Hong Kong International Airport, robots have now been deployed across the city to carry out deep cleaning in shopping centres, offices and exhibition halls.
Created by Hong Kong medical device manufacturer Time Medical Systems, the robots are equipped with ultraviolet light and disinfectant vaporisers.
The metro system has been using a different type of robot to sanitise stations and trains.

4. Long-term disinfection technology
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has developed an invisible, anti-microbial coating that can be sprayed onto surfaces to kill bacteria and viruses, including the coronavirus. This has helped to combat concerns of surfaces that may pose a risk of transmitting bacteria and viruses such as lift buttons, handrails and doorknobs. The technology is also being used at the international airport in seating areas and on baggage trolleys as well as the city's shopping centres and tourist attractions.

5. Community efforts
The local community have also contributed to the fight against the pandemic as part of their everyday activities with the use of face masks and alcohol sanitisers.Dining establishments offer take away services and conduct temperature checks on all customers dining in. Tables are socially distances with many places implementing plastic barriers between tables.

Great News - Oxford vaccine slows virus

Great news this morning suggests that the Oxford-AstraZenenca vaccine may have a "substantial" effect on reducing the transmission of the virus.

It means the jab could have a greater impact on the pandemic, as each person who is vaccinated will indirectly protect other people too.

Nearly 10 Million people have already been vaccinated in the UK, with news of vaccines to start rolling out here in Australia by the end of the month.

News from New Zealand

NEW ZEALAND’S PRIME MINISTER HAS CONFIRMED THE COUNTRY’S NATIONAL CABINET HAS AGREED TO LET AUSSIES TRAVEL QUARANTINE-FREE TO NEW ZEALAND FROM EARLY NEXT YEAR.

Jacinda Arden has told a live streamed press conference live on Facebook that while an exact date hasn’t been announced for a two-way bubble, she has said it will be in the first quarter of next year.

Australia’s Health Minister, Greg Hunt, described Ardern’s announcement as “second half of the equation”, and said the federal government would “absolutely” approve the agreement.

“We consciously opened up Australia to people coming from NZ because their case numbers were negligible, and we knew there would come a time when our case numbers would give them confidence,” he said according to ABC News.

“Now this gives the chance for New Zealanders [and] Australians to visit New Zealand … without having to quarantine.

“IT’S THE FIRST STEP ON A RETURN TO INTERNATIONAL NORMALITY.”

Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine rollout in United Kingdom sees countries around the world up preparations

11 December 2020

Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine rollout in United Kingdom sees countries around the world up preparations

Just a week ago, no certified vaccine existed for COVID-19. Now, after a flurry of developments, there are a host of vaccines being rolled out throughout the world.

The UK got the ball rolling, and Russia quickly followed. The United Kingdom jumped ahead in the global race to begin mass inoculation against COVID-19 when it gave emergency use approval for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The National Health Service gave top priority to vaccinating people aged over 80, as well as frontline healthcare workers and care home staff and residents.

The UK's vaccination program officially began on Wednesday, with 90-year-old grandmother Margaret Keenan given the first dose. The UK expected about 800,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to be administered at 70 hospitals over the following few days, just a week after the drug's approval.

In Australia, a local vaccine candidate is out of the running. Australians told to 'be realistic' about COVID-19 vaccine

Australia's low COVID-19 infection rate means the population will have to wait patiently for a March rollout, experts say

The Federal Government has deals with Pfizer, Novavax and Oxford University/AstraZeneca, but has stood firm on its original plan to deliver vaccines in March 2021.

A decision on an Australian-approved vaccine is expected at the end of January.

Governments around the world had booked hundreds of millions of doses of the Sanofi-GlaxoSmithKline shot, including the EU, United States and Britain.

COVID Vaccine News

Big news! Covid Pfizer vaccine approved for use next week in UK

The UK has become the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for widespread use.

British regulator, the MHRA, says the jab, which offers up to 95% protection against Covid-19 illness, is safe for rollout next week. Immunisations could start within days for those who need it the most. Around 10m doses should be available soon, with the first 800,000 arriving in the UK in the coming days.

We excitedly await confirmation on Australia's plan, we hear it might be as early as January and will keep you posted as soon as we have more vaccine news.

Japanese Government Considers Opening Borders

The Japanese government is considering opening its borders for foreign tourists in time for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics next year, according to Economic Revitalisation Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura.

Nishimura said that as the government considers how it should relax strict travel bans on foreign visitors in time for next summer, it will also strengthen its airport quarantine and coronavirus testing measures.

Rumours from sources close to the Japanese government are that such a roadmap may include a trial period which could begin in April 2021.

Exciting News in the race to find a cure for Covid 19!

Exciting News in the race to find a cure for Covid 19!

Dr. Josef Penninger, a University of British Columbia Life Sciences Institute Director who helped discover an enzyme and develop a drug to stop the spread of SARS more than 20 years ago, is using that knowledge to fight COVID-19. The promising findings of his first clinical trial of his new treatment were recently released in the Lancet Medical Journal.
The patient, a 45-year-old woman in Vienna who was on a ventilator due to severe COVID-19 symptoms, showed improvement shortly after receiving the drug known as APN01.
In one or two days, the virus disappeared in her blood system and also in her lungs. She developed perfect immunity from the virus. She is now back home and healthy.
This encouraging news comes on top of a recent WHO report that announced that there are now 7 COVID-19 vaccines in the final stage of trials before approval for general use, including 4 in China which hopes to officially launch the vaccine at the end of December 2020.
