Douro Valley

Close

A hundred kilometres east of the city of Porto, the Douro Valley offers one of Portugal’s most spectacular landscapes.

A wine region since 1756 but with roots in grape harvesting and wine production for over 2,000 years, the delicious port is not the only reason to visit the area. Here, the steep sides of the valley, carved over millennia by the River Douro, are a glorious patchwork of grape vines, olive groves, white-washed quintas (wine estates) and charming villages, scenery that exudes a romance and timelessness that is sure to enchant anyone that finds themselves among it.

A Unesco cultural landscape, a visit here is deeply immersive – you can appreciate the landscape at leisure by boat, fin yourself among it on foot or on a scenic drive, or explore the wealth of 18th century wine cellars where you can taste port produced by age-old practices.
