Africa’s most iconic animals, and the star of any holiday to South Africa, the Big Five refers to lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants and Cape buffalos. The name originated from the big-game hunters of the 19^th-century, who considered these five to be the most dangerous and challenging animals to hunt on foot.
