Meet the Snow Monkeys

Snow monkeys, otherwise known as Japanese macaques, are the Japanese archipelago’s only monkey species, found on three of the four main islands and many of the smaller ones. At home in a diverse range of climates and habitats, Japanese macaques are a major part of Japanese culture, featuring in art and folklore and featuring in plenty of proverbs and idioms.

Fun to watch and gorgeously fluffy, especially in winter, getting to see the snow monkeys bathing in their hot pool is one of the top things to do on a Japanese holiday – read on to find out more about these cuddly critters!
