Shibaozhai Temple perches precariously on the cliffs of the Yangtze’s banks, its bright red façade immediately spottable as you cruise along. Twelve storeys tall in totally the pavilion that houses the first nine leans against a sheer stone bluff, providing access to a second three storey pavilion that sits on top of it. Originally set high above it, Shibaozhai today is close to the river’s edge, its rocky outcrop surrounded by the Yangtze’s waters. Climbing through the nine storeys to the top will give you excellent views down over the river and beyond.
